Eleanor's Cocktail Bar in the Guoman Charing Cross Hotel is named for Eleanor of Castile, a replica of her memorial cross stands outside the window, marking the point in London where all distances are measured from. The bar itself is chic and modern with a touch of the opulent, a wall of candles illuminating a deep red space dotted with velvet chairs. Black and white photos hang on the walls and the room feels more intimate than the average central London hotel bar. Both the food and drinks menu have a Castilian-influence. They serve superior sangria as well as a good range of Champagne cocktails and after-dinner tipples. It's not hip but it's not aiming to be and it's certainly a cut above many identikit hotel bars.
