Housed in an attractive heritage building complete with veranda, Adelaide’s Botanic Bar is dedicated to the art of the cocktail. The bar is wonderfully well-stocked with every spirit you could wish for and many that you didn’t previously know existed. Bottles glint and glitter behind the marble-topped bar. The place is intimate and atmospheric with wood-panelled walls and a fireplace, an abundance of sofas for lounging on and a vibe that manages to combine vintage class with contemporary cool; it’s no surprise the venue tends to attract a hip, attractive crowd. The talented bar tenders are as comfortable whipping up something off-list as they are preparing one of Botanic’s inventive originals (though the classics are really well done here, too try a simply gin and tonic and you’ll see what we mean). The wood fired stove provides some of the most delicious (and best value) pizzas in town, or there’s a tasty tapas menu on offer. There’s an extensive wine list and on weekends it stays open until the small hours (though alas it’s not a lunchtime spot – it’s open from late afternoon week days, mid-afternoon weekends). The staff are famously friendly and service is spot on, which combined with the welcoming setting and laid back vibe makes this a popular place to kick back after work or drink till the early hours. No wonder it attracts so many regulars, drawn by the atmosphere, great drinks and fantastic food that won’t put a dent in your budget. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in town but we warn you, you may not want to leave!
