Rocket Rooftop

Strewn with vintage-style garden furniture, Rocket Rooftop is a lively alfresco space above live music venue Rocket Bar. Specialising in cocktails, fine wines and tap beers, it’s rapidly established itself as one of the coolest open air venues in the city. There’s a scattering of undercover areas and heaters if the weather doesn’t play ball and the whole place has a kind of retro backyard vibe that’s really appealing, strings of carnival-style lights brightening the sky as the sun sets. The space also doubles as an open-air cinema, screening the occasional movie (usually thematically appropriate flicks like Cocktail and Dazed and Confused there’s even a popcorn machine), and the whole space can be hired for private functions. The bartenders know how to mix a cocktail and there’s a wide selection of wines as well as some decent brews to choose from. Their generous jugs of sangria are a good bet if you’re there with a group of mates. The atmosphere is chilled and relaxed, especially on balmy evenings, so kick back in one of the lazyboys arranged invitingly under the leaves of the huge palm tree, knock back a cocktail or two and savour the view and the vibe.
