Cafe de Wetering is one of the more handsome and inviting of Amsterdam’s many brown bars

Cafe de Wetering is one of
the more handsome and inviting of Amsterdam’s many brown bars. It lifts itself
above the pack with its cosy fireplace and warm, friendly atmosphere. It’s not
oppressively dark like some of its siblings. It’s also very well located, being
a stone’s throw from the famous Rijksmuseum, slightly hidden away on Weteringstraat near a string of antiques shops.
The cafe is a convivial and atmospheric space, not fancy, serving decent beer and
a range of liquor. It’s the romantic, laid-back vibe that sets this place
apart, the fireplace glowing in the background. Bursting with locals of all
ages, it’s a perennial favourite with good reason, a place of not
inconsiderable character and charm without feeling manufactured. The service is
chatty and agreeable and on chilly days, it’s an ideal refuge.
