Grand Art Nouveau cafe on Roelofhartplein that’s a favourite hangout of bohemians, businessmen, media types and students. The interior is gilt-edged, tiled and Old Europe-elegant, but try getting a table on the terrace in summer which is packed at lunchtimes and even busier on warm evenings – a perfect point for watching sophisticates heading to and from nearby museums, galleries and the Concertgebouw, home of the Royal Dutch Symphonic Orchestra. Coffees and pastries are served all day but a glass of white beer or a brandy or whiskey served by uniformed wait staff will get you in the Wildschut groove.
