Izakaya is the trendy new bar and restaurant of the Sir Albert Hotel. It’s an attractive place, which serves top notch Japanese food and also boasts a separate, stylish bar area with a list of excellent cocktails and guest DJs on the weekends. The main room is light and airy with large windows, white walls and a long gleaming bar. The inventive, Asian-inspired drinks list is well worth checking out. Try the Bloody Geisha, which as you may have gathered, is an Asian take on the Bloody Mary, with soy sauce and honey thrown into the mix, or the Saketini, which blends gin, Takanoi Sake, sugar syrup, fresh lime and cucumber very refeshing. The Japanese Spark, a mix of shochu, rum, jasmine tea syrup, soda water and mint is also a winner and we like the sound of their Far East Bellini, champagne and vodka with a splash of Nashi pear puree. They also stock a good range of Japanese whiskies and a selection of different sakes. While the drinks are worth a visit in their own right, grab a table in the main dining room if you can. The standard of cooking is also excellent, the food beautifully presented: wonderfully fresh sashimi, light tempura, and various hibachi dishes are all highlights.
