The Lobby at Hotel V
May 11, 2018
The Lobby Bar at Amsterdam’s historic Hotel V is a gorgeous space, stylish and warm, with its bronze curtains and a crackling wood-burning fire: the full effect is part speakeasy and part cosy cottage bar. There are plump leather sofas, vintage lamps and rugs, a drinks trolley shaped like an old globe, and a selection of elegant book cases dotted about the place, as well as a handsome, ornate new wooden bar, which is very much the highlight of an already attractive room. The bar is well-stocked and serves a stonking list of gin and tonics, including The Gin Mare G & T, which is made with 1724 Tonic and rosemary, an aromatic concoction, subtle and herbal, we also like the sound of the geranium and grapefruit concoction too. With its library nook, its terrace overlooking the Nesplein and its small stage area, where live music is sometimes played, this is very much a living, breathing hotel bar rather than a stuffy museum place, the kind of place you can happily while away an evening with a glass of good wine or one of their cracking G&Ts.
