Butcher’s Tears is a charming, small independent brewery specialising in hand-crafted beers and based on a canal side on the outskirts of town in Amsterdam-Zuid. The brewery boasts its own tasting room or proeflokaal – a sparsely decorated, white-tiled space, clean and stark with an almost clinical quality, ideal for quaffing some superior brews. These beers are some of the best in the Netherlands, made with evident love and care, unfiltered and unpasteurized. The ß-Broomriderß- is a dark, comforting none too sweet bock beer. They also do a nice line in English-style IPAs, like the ß-Hopbuk.ß- Theirs is a seasonally changing selection of beers and specials have included the dark, malty Raggle Taggle tailored for chilly winter nights. There are many more available, both bottled and on tap as well as a couple of Dutch ciders, a selection of wines from a private importer, a few special foreign beers and good quality coffee something for everyone. Because this is not a fully fledged bar but an adjunct to the brewery its opening hours are limited, from Wednesday to Sunday, 4-9 pm, so time your visit accordingly and arrive early to ensure a decent amount of drinking time.
