Located in the neon heart of the Red Light District, De Prael is a small-scale, artisanal brewery crafting high-quality beers. Proeflokaal – which means tasting house – is the place to go to sample the brewery’s wares. The space is comfy and cosy, full of vintage furniture and looking a bit like a living room, all warm wingback chairs and old coffee tables, a fireplace and moss-green curtains. The white tiled walls are peppered with old photographs and posters. It’s a great place to chill and linger and savour: heaven for craft beer enthusiasts. The beers take their names from famous Dutch singers like Andre Hazes or Johnny Jordaan. They’re made using traditional, artisanal beer-making processes. All are organic, unfiltered, and unpasteurized. There’s also a range of tasty Dutch bar snacks available as well, including classic bitterballen and croquettes, which pair well with beer. After sampling a couple of beers, head to the shop and buy your favourites to take home. As well as making excellent beers, De Prael has a policy of employing those recovering from psychiatric issues, giving them purpose and pride, helping them to find their feet again.
