The Canal House is a stylish 23 room boutique hotel spanning three converted 17th-century merchant’s houses right by one of the most prestigious waterways in the city and five minutes from the museum district. Though quirky in its layout, it’s a strikingly decorated building, full of rich fabrics, reworked old masters, and designed with a painterly use of light. The décor blends the traditional with the contemporary and the public spaces are as handsome of the bedrooms. With its brushed steel stools and theatrically illuminated bar counter, the hotel bar is an atmospheric, mirrored space. The matt black walls, grand chandeliers and gilded plasterwork make it seductive and romantic, the perfect place to round up an evening. Perch at the bar or gran one of the comfy sofas by the window. Their signature martini is a delicious thing, cinnamon- and mint-infused vodka topped up with apple juice. If you’re in town for a weekend of culture or just looking for a glamorous place to sip a cocktail or a glass of fizz, this place has far more character and atmosphere to offer than the average identikit hotel bar.
