It might be a little out of the centre of town, but it’s worth the trip. The handsome chic SoVine is a real boon for those who love their wine. It’s an elegant space, spread over two floors with bare-brick walls and bottles providing a dominant note in the decor. The tables and chairs are slightly plain and functional but the place becomes far more atmospheric in the evenings. These guys know a thing or two about wine and the owner’s passion is evident and infectious. The wine list itself is comprehensive, spanning the globe, with a good selection of new world wines as well as European wines and a focus on traditional and up-and-coming vineyards. There’s also a superb range available by the glass, enabling you to try new things and be a bit more creative in your choices. If you find the list a bit daunting, don’t be afraid to ask for guidance as the bar staff are knowledgeable and happy to give recommendations. The frequently changing food menu offers plenty of dishes that pair well with the wine, while themed wine weeks allow regulars to focus on the wine produced by particular countries and regions and the bar holds regular tasting events if you want to expand your knowledge of all things related to the grape.
