As every school boy knows, A briki is the Greek term for a particular kind of coffee pot. It’s also also the name of one of Athens’ coolest little bars. As colourful as it is lively, this charming little spot has near legendary status for Athenians. It’s an exciting place to hang out, packed with character. But don’t take our word for it. Reports are almost unanimously glowing. Much has been made of the fact that it is equally good for a daytime coffee stop and indeed a civilised libation of an evening. If you fall into the latter camp, the ccoktails are exemplary, the service irreproachable and despite Greece’s financial woes, your fellow drinkers are almost invariably in the highest of spirits. On balmy summer nights, the crowd moves opposite to Mavilli Square, where, to the sound of the fountain playing under the stars, they’ll remian until the small hours. So, there you have it: a tiny, if perfectly formed hotspot, appealingly laidback and ideal for people watching.
