The Gin Joint

One of Athens’ leading cocktail bars, and without a doubt the finest gin den in this ancient city, as the name would suggest, the Gin Joint is a temple to all things gin. While gaining an international reputation for pouring the botanical spirit, the bar has remained a welcoming neighborhood watering hole full of friendly and genuine faces, and that is a major part of what makes the Gin Joint so special.

At last count, the number of gin labels at the bar was approaching one hundred, and while the superlative size of the list – and the corresponding cocktail card – is certainly impressive, it is the way they are mixed that separates the Gin Joint from the rest of the pack. Case in point is an entire section of the menu called New Fashioned Alcoholic Beverages which feature creative gin pours like the Tweedledum and Tweedledee – premium London dry gin, elderflower liqueur, egg white, lemon, and vanilla – and the No Strings Attached – Dutch genever, lemon, agave syrup, saffron and coconut salted caramel.

From a different section of the menu called All Things Ginny, you will find even more fun gin-centric drinks like the Home Is Where the Gin Is, which is a blend of premium London dry gin, kaffir lime, and lemon tonic water, with the added touch of the exotic in the form of cardamom bitters.

Despite the name, it’s not 100% gin here. No, the Gin Joint also cranks out superb tequila and rum tipples – think tequila tangoing with smoky mango, and rum mixing with passionfruit and coffee – in addition to a whole range of velvety smooth vermouth sippers.
