The clue is in the name. Though house beats have now usurped arias, Atlanta’s mega club, Opera, still pays homage to its heritage as a genuine 1920s Opera House. A cool $2 million has been spent in renovating the place and recreating an air of old time glamour mixed with contemporary sparkle and though the result may be full on for some tastes, we’re all for the occasional bit of excess. It’s a grand, three level space with a domed ceiling from which crystal chandeliers glint. The crowd is composed of the city’s beautiful people and they even have VIP opera boxes (of course they do) for those who want a more intimate experience. The place attracts a young, party-keen crowd and gets as raucous as you would expect you don’t come to a club like this for a quiet night out. Music varies from night to night covering the usual scope of club tunes, with evenings ranging from College Wednesdays to Hip Hop Thursdays and Girls’ Night Out Saturdays. Should getting to the club seem like a strain too far, you can hire the VIP Party Bus, which is popular for celebrations such as hen and stag parties, where you can do your drinking on the go. There’s an attractive bar area and cocktails are well executed, and cost about what you’d expect in a club of this sort. Just remember that you’ll need to dress the part or risk being left out in the cold the dress code is pretty tight and the bouncers are strict in enforcing it, so leave the casual gear at home.
