Degree is superbly situated on the corner of the main drag of the Viaduct Basin. It’s a lively bar with a huge outside deck and some of the best water-side views in the Viaduct. Sit out in the sun with a drink and see how the other half lives: you can watch the rich people’s yachts bob and dip before heading inside for a fresh round. The interior is sprawling and faintly industrial, with a smart dining area on one side. The kitchen’s speciality is stone-grilling which essentially means your food arrives on a hot slab of rock (watch your fingers!). Seafood and sharing platters are recommended and they hold offers throughout the week when there are serious bargains to be had, such as Sweet Tooth Tuesday, Texas Rib Wednesday or Thursday Pizza and Pasta Nights drinks offers include Bubbly Saturdays and Friday Night Flights, though personally we’re a fan of Sourpuss Thursdays for the name alone. There’s a decent cocktail menu and signature drinks include the Red Delicious (Absolut pear, apple sours and cranberry), the Reggae Rum Punch and the vodka-based Jelly Baby. There’s also a solid wine list, with a wide selection of New World reds and whites, and the beer list includes the usual suspects and some lesser known brands, while there’s also a wide choice of spirits on offer: vodka enthusiasts in particular won’t be disappointed. While the venue is relaxed and stylish during the week, and there’s laid back live music on a Sunday afternoon, come the weekends the atmosphere shifts considerably, becoming far more club-like with a resident DJ.
