Neck of the Woods
May 11, 2018
Neck of the Woods is aiming to occupy a very unique space in the nightlife landscape of Auckland’s famed capital of quirkiness: Karangahape Road. Describing itself as a bar, venue for live music, late night eatery, art gallery, and community gathering point, Neck of the Woods has entered the K’ Road scene with a bang. Occupying a prime place to eat, drink, listen, and play on K’ Road, Neck of the Woods is definitely a rock-and-roll spot at heart that still knows how to play it smooth when it needs to. Look no further than the drink list, which is heavy on offerings from Kiwi craft brewers like Garage Project and Hallertau and self described ‘fancy’ drinks. It’s these fancy drinks that separate the bar from much of the rest of K’ Road. The Mandrake makes mouths water with Cachaça, lime, mint, cucumber, and just a bit of celery bitters while the Audrey Moore drops jaws with its ingredients – tequila, yuzu marmalade, lemon and a twist of grapefruit – all rimmed with a hint of smokey whisky, butter-flavored vodka, sea salt, and toasted breadcrumbs. One night sipping the cocktails here, and we’re guessing you’ll probably find an excuse to be in this neck of the woods on K’ Road more often from here on out.
