1881 by Water Library

The Water Library is well established as one of the top dining experiences in Bangkok, and its most recent eating and nightlife concept applies the same high standards, but in a more relaxed, gastro-pub setting. 1881 is set inside Groove, the Central World complex devoted entirely to food and drink. It’s inspired by the 19th Century Industrial Revolution and has been designed to resemble a steam power plant, with floor to ceiling windows and industrial water pipes running throughout the room. The food is a combination of classic bar fodder, small plates and comfort food from around the world, with an emphasis on European cuisine, and all designed to be enjoyed with friends in fun, laidback surroundings. The cocktail list has been compiled by The Water Library’s head mixologist, internationally-acclaimed Mirko Gardelliano, and features the full range of contemporary skills and techniques in cocktail-making, from molecular mixology to house infusions and barrel-aged concoctions. Signature cocktails include the Gummy Bear, which came about after head bartender Prasopchok Chalarak (known as Boy) chucked a leftover gummy bear into a glass of gin. The drink it went on to inspire has become a popular choice at 1881 and is one of Boy’s specialities.Easy listening tunes contribute to the chilled-out vibe during the day, but at night the pace picks up as live bands playing contemporary music alternate with some of the city’s best DJs.
