Located just off the famous Khao San Road – Bangkok’s backpacking mecca – the cosy 999 West Bar has become a popular spot for the travellers who flock here, as well as the local young Thai crowd who love to mix with them. Whether meeting for a few beers in the afternoon or partying into the small hours, the bar is usually alive with activity.
As the name suggests, there’s a rustic Wild West theme – think gingham table-cloths, lots of wood and leather banquettes, all done with charm. Pool tables keep the guests busy as they exchange notes on their traveling escapades while sipping on a cold beer or refreshing cocktail. The prices are reasonable at the best of times but a daily happy hour from 4-8pm offering two for one deals is a surefire way to get the evening started as you mean to go on. Meanwhile a barbecue and grill kitchen provides tasty American-style snacks. As night falls DJs hit the decks and the atmosphere ratchets up a notch or two as the party really gets going. This may not be among the most upscale of Bangkok’s nightlife hotspots, but the laidback atmosphere and fun-loving crowd means the place is always buzzing.
