Koi originated in LA, where it quickly became popular with the A-list set. Paris Hilton, George Clooney, Liv Tyler and Leonardo DiCaprio are all regulars at the chic Californian hang-out and the paparazzi have pretty much set up camp at the door. Having conquered LA the owners of Koi decided to expand their nightlife empire to Bangkok (via New York and Las Vegas) and they have their eye firmly set on attracting a similarly illustrious and international pack in Thailand’s capital. This seriously chic space is dark and seductive and the interior is awash with rich browns and deep reds. The overall effect is dramatic and rather sexy; this is clearly a place you visit as much for its air of exclusivity and glamour as for the food (which is very good) or the drinks (ditto). Even the entrance is impressive: a tunnel of dark glass glittering with candles. From there you’ll find an elegant dining area and a vibrant lounge packed with the city’s pretty people this has become one of the hippest place to be seen in the city and international models have been known to swing by and strike a few poses. The kitchens produce Japanese dishes with a Californian twist probably largely ignored by all those models but highly recommended if you don’t have to squeeze into sample size clothes for a living. The atmosphere is achingly fashionable and the prices predictably high sorry, we did warn you this is a place designed with A-listers and their bulging wallets in mind.
