Q up emerged seemingly from nowhere to become Indochina’s premier nightspot – incorporating two bars, a spacious terrace and a dancefloor. The bar has the largest selection of cocktails and spirits in the city and many of the world’s top DJs perform here when they’re on tour. On other nights, resident DJs play everything from House to Hip Hop, with some Electro and Rock thrown in for good measure. The Upstairs Lounge, also known as Q Up, was created by designer Bruno Tanquerel, the man behind Europe’s renowned Buddha Bars. Q Up also features one of Bangkok’s only open air smoking lounges a popular hangout since the no smoking ban came into force in Bangkok’s bars and clubs. Sheesha pipes are available in a range of flavours, as well as some fine imported cigars. The same flip flop-clad backpackers who grace many a Bangkok bar can be found here, but the place has also played host to an impressive roll call of stars, including Mick Jagger, Matt Dillon and Owen Wilson, so you might find yourself drinking and dancing the night away with the A list. The bar staff are film star gorgeous themselves, so you’re likely to find inane grin appearing on your face like a hopeless teenager when they take your order. But don’t flatter yourself – they’re professionals dedicated to the art of the cocktail. Never mind, the pillars and seats are covered in the softest fake leather, which is far kinder on the head after drinking to unrequited love once too often.
