Sky Bar at the Lebua Hotel
May 11, 2018
Bangkok bristles with some vast skyscrapers, so it’s small wonder there are so many rooftop bars. However, few can top the Sky Bar at the Lebua Hotel, which bills itself as the world’s highest open air bar and is one of the coolest destinations in the city. Perched atop the colossal State Tower, Bangkok’s second tallest building and famed for its golden dome, you’ll gasp at sweeping views of the city through which the Chao Phraya river snakes silvered in the moonlight. And as if the view wasn’t dazzling enough, the illuminated circular bar changes colour every few seconds, and the drinks list feature some fine champagne and superb cocktails. Sitting up here among the clouds, sipping a Sunset 63 Absolut 100 vodka, Cointreau, pineapple and orange juice as you watch the sun go down has got to be one of the best ways to pass an evening in Bangkok. The Sky Bar has long been a favourite hang-out for celebrities and wannabes, but since it featured in the film Hangover II its popularity has soared and on very busy nights you might have to fight camera wielding view-seekers for a spot to enjoy your drink and the view in relative peace. This is also where you’ll find some of the best live jazz in Bangkok, with performances every night. Drinks and food might be pricey you’ll have to add a service charge and government tax to the figure you see on the menu – but the experience is priceless.
