'Tha Chang’ means the Elephant (it’s also a kind of joke on Chang beer) and the bar with this name is a popular outdoor bar dominated by a large tree with bright lanterns hanging from the branches.

‘Tha Chang’ means the Elephant (it’s also a kind of joke on Chang beer) and the bar with this name is a popular outdoor bar dominated by a large tree with bright lanterns hanging from the branches. Located north of the old city, it attracts a crowd of locals and foreigners and is a great place to experience Chiang Mai’s nightlife. The place is dotted with surfboards and tends to get busy on Friday and Saturday nights when there is live music. The crowds often spill out into the street. The bar has a large selection of drinks including cocktails, local beers and whiskey as well as a small menu of Thai food available, mostly consisting of beer snacks. If you’re with friends their ‘bucket cocktails’, designed to share, are definitely the way to go.
