- Great food

Tucked away behind Avenida Diagonal, Bar Mut is a favourite with well-heeled and deep-pocketed locals. It’s a compact spot, and booking is advisable to get a perch at busy times, but the effort is worth it (though be warned, if you try to book online, the extreme pretentiousness of the website, all artsy films and clips of trendy people drinking, might put you off we’d recommend you ignore that and try the venue out for yourself).
Be sure to pay attention to the specials chalked on various boards around the bar as the food here is superb (be warned, though, the staff can encourage over-ordering and the food isn’t cheap, so be careful what you plump for if you’re watching your budget though, if that’s the case, you’re probably in the wrong place). The venue is sparsely if stylishly done out: think lots of cool wood and tiled floors. The walls are lined with shelf after shelf of bottles and there’s an excellent wine list to explore as well as a comprehensive range of spirits, though again, the prices aren’t bargain basement.
The bar attracts a mixed crowd, disparate in age (if not income), but united by a passion for what’s on their plate and in their glass, and the exclusive, moneyed atmosphere tends to deter the tourists for the most part. Service is efficient but could do with being a tad more friendly. Grab a seat at the counter if you can. There’s live music after midnight at weekends, too, but it’s still all very civilised, so if you can afford it, it’s worth popping in.
