Bodega al Maestrazgo

More of a wine shop than a bar-proper, this charming bodega in the heart of the Born serves up a stunning house vermouth, dry and a little spicy. The room itself is small and relatively modern, with wine barrels stacked up behind the antique shopfront and rickety shelves laden with a great selection of Catalan wines and other goodies. Behind this, in the back room, you’ll find a scattering of basic chairs and tables, plus a small counter offering olives, anchovies and suitable snacks, should you want to taste some of their wares (and, believe us, you’ll want). For more ambitious tapas you’ll have to venture elsewhere (though not too far, this is Barcelona after all) but you could easily lose an afternoon here, sipping and sampling the excellent produce, savouring the flavours of the vermouth, the ritual of it.
