The Gainsborough Bar is a chic alternative to many a hotel bar - serving up an education in first-class mixology, fine wines and craft spirits.

Chic and modern, much like the hotel in which it resides (the luxurious Gainsborough Bath Spa), The Gainsborough Bar may be small, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in creative mixology and atmosphere. The alcove bar area is manned by a small team of expert bartenders, each of whom is adept at tailor-making cocktails according to guests’ palate and mood. Although there is a traditional cocktail list at The Gainsborough Bar (filled with classics like Pimm’s and martinis), the team can curate a bespoke concoction filled with any number of their collection of craft spirits – which include smoked bourbon, milk vodka, local Bath gin and rosehip liqueur. The staff also house-make their own syrups (the lavender syrup pairs perfectly with their take on the Aperol Spritz) and present the libations with unique little flourishes such as edible flowers. Much like the rest of the establishment, The Gainsborough Bar is decked out in an Art Deco-style – all polished woods, teal and brown colour palettes and curved mirrors – but there is nothing retro about their selection of local ales, fine wines and champagnes, let alone the view from the bar, which overlooks the hotel’s beautiful, and modern, in-house spa. Essentially, whether you are a guest of the hotel or not, you’d do worse than to enjoy a pre- or post-dinner drink at The Gainsborough Bar.
