Décolleté

Located in the Hidden City, Décolleté is the slightly saucily named sister bar of the nearby Club Glen. While the latter designed as a temple to whisky, masculine and minimal with its eyes squarely fixed on the male drinker of quality spirits, the former is aimed at a very different audience the name, after all, is pretty much a giveaway. Décolleté is a venue that is decidedly and unapologetically girly. One of Beijing’s most stylish champagne bars, it’s grape not grain that is the focus here: it’s a feminine, elegant space, cosmopolitan and intimate and is unsurprisingly established as a popular choice for girls’ nights out though it also attracts a fair number of couples, as the romantic vibe lends itself to an ‘impress your date’ evening. (Those gentlemen thinking this also makes it the perfect place to acquire a date, be warned; the venue is less keen on groups of men so it’s not the place to go if you’re on the lookout for love). The low-lit interior has something of a Belle ßpoque look with floral motifs and velvet banquettes. The bar stocks a vast selection of fizz, with champagne served by the bottle and the glass, as well as in cocktail form. Some might baulk at such gender-delineated drinking dens, but those women who just want to enjoy a cheerful catch up with female friends without walking the gauntlet of bad chat up lines will likely welcome such a feminine space with open arms which is no doubt one of the reasons why this spot is such a success.
