Comunale is one of a cluster of smart stylish bars and restaurants located by the waterfront in the Beton Hala space at Sava Port. It’s a great place to spend an evening, perched right on the banks of the Sava river. Comunale is a striking space, designed by Aleksandar Rodi?, it’s stark, bold and at times uncompromising, populated with communal tables hence the name something of a rarity in Belgrade. This is a place of congregation, with a hip young crowd arrayed around a number of large tables dotted about the room. There’s an imposing central bar, a number of slab-like benches and a lot of concrete and steel on display, giving the bar a modern, gallery-like feel, cool and rather hard-edged. The food and drink are of a very high standard here, excellent Italian dishes risottos, pastas and salads, a superior tiramisu – and a good range of wine and spirits, local and international. The terrace seating down by the river is a lovely place to sit on a warm evening as the sun begins to set.
