This gorgeous bar and restaurant has the distinction of being the first in India to serve exclusively Vietnamese cuisine. Situated in a pavilion on the grounds of the exclusive Taj West End Hotel, it radiates elegance. Lit by internationally renowned designer Tony Corbett, the walls are draped in oriental silks and the stone table-tops contrast beautifully with solid teak floors and Southeast Asian tiles. The look is completed with leather ottomans and paper lanterns. This ambience is accentuated by the bar’s park setting: surrounded by lily ponds and green open spaces, it’s easy to forget that you’re sitting in the middle of Bangalore. There’s even a natural waterfall trickling away in the background. It’s a great place to spend a leisurely afternoon and evening, hopefully in great company. An open kitchen gives the room a sense of theatre, allowing you to see your raw mango salad and rice paper rolls being prepared as you wait. Like the service, the food is exceptional. The fish dishes are highly recommended, as are the vegetarian options and the lamb sambal in coconut sauce is something to order again and again. The drinks are appropriately delicate, pretty things and there’s an impressive wine list, with a sommelier on hand to aid your choice. The blue bar at the entrance is a great place for a pre-dinner aperitif, particularly at the weekend. This is one of the smartest restaurants in a thriving city and its rather glamorous clientele reflect this. Dress up and enjoy yourself.
