The Tasting Room
May 11, 2018
Surrounded by some of the most gorgeous fjords on the planet, Bergen, Norway, attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. Until recently though, those thirsty travelers (and locals) didn’t have a dedicated whiskey bar to enjoy in the evenings after their fun-filled days, but that all came to end in 2014 when The Tasting Room opened its doors. The Tasting Room wants you to know up-front that they are more than a whiskey bar, and we definitely believe them, but we still want to talk about the whiskey first (sorry, guys). One of the largest collections in Scandinavia is stored on a stunning set of shelves that weaves its way around the entire venue, and it’s bound to blow you away just as much as it did us. On those shelves you’ll certainly find whiskey from the most famous Kentuckian, Scottish, and Japanese bottlers in the world, but it’s the lesser known labels they’ve brought in that we think shows off their true expertise. Whether you like your whiskey straight up, on the rocks, or in a cocktail, The Tasting Room has you covered, and as far as the latter is concerned, they’ve actually become known as one of the best mixology bars in town. Beer lovers are also well-looked-after, with over 80 bottles of beer at last count (many of it craft), but we’re sticking with the whiskey, especially on one of those cold Nordic nights.
