East Bay Spice Company

The elegant Berkley restaurant and bar serves top quality Indian street food – cooked in a tandoor oven – alongside a range of tasty rum cocktails. It’s an understated but attractive room, all neutral tones with hanging lights, high ceilings, and tasteful South Asian accents. The cocktails are a cut above too, elegantly presented. Try the Royal Charter, a blend of bourbon, Cocchi Americano, Becherovka, coconut chai syrup, lemon, and bergamot bitters, sprigged with mint, a lovely spicy, summery drink. Or the Company of Merchants, which pairs Bols barrel-aged Genever with St. George Spirits agua libre, spiced grapefruit cordial, lemon, celery bitters, and soda. These are intelligent, layered creations, drinks to savour and which pair well with the food. The Noble Truth is a case in point, a tingly mix of Cimarron Blanco, mezcal vida, curried red bell pepper, honey, lime, and sea salt, savoury and quaffable at the same time. The food menu, a reasonably priced mix of tasty curries, tandooris, and samosas, is ideal for sharing and the bar has a romantic atmosphere.
