Part of Berkley’s growing locavore movement, Gather serves creative Californian fare made with seasonal ingredients. They also boast a tip-top wine list of West Coast wines. The room is warm and rustic with large windows to let in the sun and splashes of greenery, which underline the venue’s Michael Pollan ethos: to eat “mostly plants.” Their daily-changing menus include braised meats and brick-oven pizzas as well as a number of tasty vegetable dishes. Food is inspired by the local farmers, ranchers and artisan food producers of the area. There is also a programme of organic cocktails and a range of beers brewed by small-scale producers. From the former, we like the sound of the Northern Exposure, a blend of Scotch, Earl Grey-Maple, Citrus, Egg White, and Bitters, and the Verde Verte, a blend of Tequila, Carpano Bianco, Blood Orange, Lime, Cilantro, and Habanero, served in a coupe which packs a not inconsiderable punch.
