Juleps New York Bar
May 11, 2018
While in New York itself the speakeasy vibe has been done to death, here in Berlin it’s still not so omnipresent that it gets boring, especially when done as well as it is here. Juleps New York Bar and Restaurant takes you back to those bad old Prohibition days, though there’s certainly no shortage of alcohol here the menu offers 120 cocktails and 150 different spirits, as well as the usual beers and wines, so there’s no reason to stay dry in Juleps. Of the extensive, American-flavoured menu, we’d be tempted by the seriously potent Tigermilk (Cointreau, rum, brandy and Kahlua and that’s just some of the ingredients!), the James Bond (vodka and champagne) or one of the extensive selection of Juleps on offer (we’re partial to fizz, so would try the champagne julep). There’s frozen margaritas if you want to cool down on a warm day, or pitchers if you’re in the mood for sharing, but if simplicity is more your style, try one of the extensive selection of single malts a bar that has five different kinds of Glenmorangie on the shelves is a bar keen on its whisky. Add a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and great international food and you’ve got the picture (food includes grilled steak, seafood, snacking dishes like nachos, a selection of salads and sandwiches, and a reasonable range of vegetarian options, though check the board for specials.) Tourists and ex-pats might also like to know that it’s one of the few places in the city you can watch the Superbowl. A generous happy hour runs between 5 and 8 during the week and all night Sunday, by the way. Happy experimenting.
