Mein Haus am See
May 11, 2018
Let’s get the obvious part out of the way right off the top, Mein Haus am See is not, in fact, a house on the sea. Nope, the bar resides right in the center of Berlin, taking its name not from splashy August escapes but in fact a former East German state-run hotel. While the hotel may not seem like the typical inspiration for a bar, it was a place where many people were able to carve out a slice of freedom and escape in the city, and the new Mein Haus am See continues the tradition. A cavernous complex home to several rooms and event spaces furnished with comfortable funky furniture sourced from the trendiest thrift shops in Berlin, the space manages to feel much cozier than a place of its size should. During the day, Mein Haus am See serves as a home base for those who do freelance work or who just happen to be free from work, serving up coffee and assorted breakfast and lunch items. In the evenings, the bar gets busy dispensing drinks alongside a full agenda of DJ sets, art gatherings, theme nights, and monthly cosmic dance parties downstairs. The unique mix will have you never wanting to leave, and the good news is that technically you don’t have to, because Mein Haus am See is open 24 hours a day.
