The Curtain Club of the Ritz-Carlton, Berlin
May 11, 2018
Nestled behind dapper drapes directly off the luxurious lobby of the Ritz Carlton Berlin lies The Curtain Club, a turn-of-last-century British Gentleman’s Club-inspired space full of dark woods, marble-topped tables, leather chairs, and a crackling fireplace. Miles away from the underground and alternative scene of many of Berlin’s other nightlife venues, The Curtain Club is a refuge for those who appreciate the age-old art of sipping expertly crafted cocktails in a sumptuous setting and just a touch of pomp and circumstance thrown in for good measure.Despite the exclusive-sounding name and a definite focus on the finer things in libation life, the Curtain Club is open to the public, and the act of thrusting back the curtains that cloak its entrance is an event not to be missed. The bar’s opening each evening is announced by a real live former British Beefeater who, in full regalia, marches down the grand lobby steps, taps his staff on the floor, regally declares the venue open for the night, and then draws back the blinds to reveal the plush Curtain Club for all to see. The cocktails are as impressive as their lead-in as the master mixologist behind the drink card uses his exceptional skills in aromas and color to craft drinks that appeal to all senses. Martinis are a signature of The Curtain Club but creative dalliances like the Aqua Di Gioia – yasmin flower, gin, rose, lemon, honey, mint, and mango – and Yuzu Watermelon – premium sake, watermelon, and lemon – blaze new trails.
