About Green Door
As the inimitable Shakin’ Stevens once asked, “Green Door, what’s that secret you’re keeping?” Well, this delightful little bar along Winterfieldstr – and, yes, it really does have a green door – is certainly a secret worth discovering. A gorgeously retro space, it’s styled in that classic, trendy 70's domestic way (think checked wallpaper, lots of kitsch paintings and random ornaments – we’re partial to the illuminated dog on the bar, which is apparently the place’s mascot). Get there in time to snag one of the snug little corner tables and you’re guaranteed a prime spot, though there’s also plenty of seating along the bar.
A longstanding destination in the neighbourhood, the place tends to attract a lot of locals, and it’s such a small space that it doesn’t take a lot of people to make it feel busy. But it really is worth the visit, if not for the décor and the atmosphere then for the cocktail list.
Read More This intimate little space prides itself on truly exotic cocktails and offers an enormous and impressive choice – try the signature champagne-based cocktail or one of the monthly specials. Drinks are put together with real care and in a city that takes its alcohol very seriously indeed, Green Door can justifiably lay claim to some of the best cocktails in town.
The venue is open evenings till the early hours and happy hour is 6-8 nightly. Owned by playwright Fritz Müller-Scherz, it is apparently all about “the power of positive drinking”. We’re not sure what that actually means, but in a setting like this and with drinks this good, we’re happy to give it a go.
