Scotch and Sofa
May 11, 2018
Red velvet decks the walls at the charmingly retro Scotch and Sofa (and don’t we just love that name!) Eclectic is probably the word that would best describe the look of the place. Located in trendy Prenzlauer Berg, it’s kind of a mishmash but in the best possible sense, all clashing wallpaper and 1950s television sets with the kind of flattering lighting that hides a multitude of sins. Whiskey is unsurprisingly the drink of the hour and they stock a wide range. Much fun can be had exploring and tasting and the staff clearly care about what they serve, so don’t be scared to ask their advice. Cocktails too are decently made (their whisky sour really hits the spot) and generally affordable try the cocktail of the month, which is usually on special offer, if you’re there on a budget. The music is as idiosyncratic as the décor, offering a coolly unobtrusive soundtrack to your evening. There’s also a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks, coffees and snacks, and in summer they’ve been known to get out the garden chairs so you can enjoy the sunshine. Staff are friendly and slightly offbeat, suiting the vibe of the space (and the neighbourhood) and the venue tends to attract a mixed, youngish crowd of locals. The downstairs room can get a bit smokey, which can be a trial for those used to the smoke-free social spaces of the UK and US, and it can get busy at times, but for a dose of quirky cool, Scotch and Soda is a great venue to visit.
