One of the newest additions to the Berlin bar scene, the gorgeously styled Victoria Bar is a great venue to ease yourself into the night. The 20s style interior reeks of style, decadence and luxury, with leather couches and dark wood panelling as a backdrop to some great (and slightly saucy) modern art with a smattering of art deco touches – no wonder it’s just picked up an award for best interior design. To continue the relaxed vibe, there’s also a great mix of jazz, soul and Reggae playing in the background, though never too intrusively. The decent sized cocktail menu (which comes bound like a book, in keeping with the vintage feel of the venue) includes a nice selection of champagne cocktails travelling Brits can be patriotic and order a Prince Charles (champagne, cognac and apricot brandy) or even a Prince of Wales. Or why not try and gin-based Hemingway Sour if you’re more the literary bent, and there’s a great range of gin or tequila based offerings though they’re strong, so imbibe with caution! There’s also a nice range of alcohol-free cocktails on offer, and happy hour runs a generous 6.30-9.30, with some tempting bargains. There’s also a range of bar snacks available, though the menu isn’t extensive. Overall, the Victoria Bar offers a charming and sophisticated night out where you can relax in chic environs and enjoy quality drinks, without being intimidated by your settings or your server the bar staff are friendly and, if you can’t see what you want on the menu, they are usually happy to make you something from scratch.
