The Jekyll and Hyde
May 11, 2018
As its name suggests this bar has two faces. Located within Birmingham’s Colmore Business District, The Jekyll and Hyde from the team behind Birmingham venues Island and The Victoria a main bar and a Gin Parlour. The first of these is a decent enough bar, serving cask ale, wines and cocktails in appealing surroundings, but venture upstairs and you’ll find an atmospheric Victorian-themed space, complete with heavy velvet curtains, wood-panelling, vintage knickknacks, old gramophones, and butterflies mounted under glass. An inventive food menu is served alongside a wide array of Mother’s Ruin including some old dry gins and old toms as well as some more modern, familiar brands. Customise a G&T or try one of their creative cocktails. Food-wise, they serve an eclectic menu encompassing burgers and hotdogs, traditional high tea and homemade sandwiches, and a special gin and fusion food menu in the Gin Parlour. While the main bar downstairs is pleasant enough, it’s worth noting that the Parlour isn’t always open, so do check ahead if you have your heart set on some tippling in Victorian surroundings, especially as The Jekyll and Hyde is a bit out of the way.
