Part of a new wave of stylish, high end bars and restaurants in Bogota, Black Bear (named after Chef Andrew “Black Bear” Blackburn) is a chic and inventive space, combining a raw bar, dining room and impressive cocktail programme. These guys know a thing or two about drinks. Try the ‘Penicillin’, a soothing blend of Chivas Regal 12 year, ginger, honey and lemon, it’s guaranteed to cure whatever ails you. The Bogota Mule and their agave-laced take on the Old Fashioned are also worthy of your attention.
The room is handsome and low lit, all wood and glass, with a lovely light terrace area. The creative, exciting food menu is divided into small and large plates as well as a range of dishes from the raw bar. There are grilled langoustines, fish croquettas served with wasabi cream, mini doughnuts stuffed with octopus, and meltingly rich pork belly. The raw selection includes zingy fresh shellfish, a smoked duck salad and a white fish gravlax. Attention to detail is evident everywhere and we’re smitten with their bear logo.
