Ugly American is, as the name suggests, a playful Colombian take on the American bar as a concept, part of a wave of cool new bars reshaping the Bogota bar scene. The room is low-lit and handsome with a familiar pared down urban aesthetic, raw concrete and white brick, wooden chairs and tables and a smart tiled floor. There’s a great list of classic American cocktails to choose from, including Mint Juleps and Old Fashioneds. There are also some more international drinks – a jalapeno-laced Spicy Mexican, Crimson Mojito and a classic Gin and Tonic. There’s a small but decent range of beers available and the food menu includes American style dishes, including mac’n’cheese, iceberg wedge salad and a pork belly ‘slab’. There are also fish tacos and lobster rolls and chicken and waffles – this place is so on-trend it hurts. Their brunch dishes are also well worth sampling, particularly the wicked challah French toast drizzled in chocolate.
