It’s the attention to detail and quality that makes Moeder Lambic stand out among the other beer-focussed bars in Brussels. One of two branches, run by Jean Hummler, the bar stocks approximately 150 beers on the menu including around 45 on tap. The selection includes beers from all around the world, with many from Belgium and a number from the UK. The staff here really do know their stuff and are more than happy to talk you through all the beers on offer, providing tips and tasting notes. Try the potent Legendes Gouyasse Triple, the easy drinking Band of Brothers from Brasserie de la Senne or a spot of Brewdog Punk IPA. On the food front the main emphasis is on cheeses and charcuterie, on well sourced, high quality ingredients. Try one of their tasty tartines, the pottekees, a moreish blend of fresh white cheese, onion, pepper and beer or their superb house paté, made with geuze beer. Even the butter which comes with the bread is of a high standard – it’s that kind of place.
