Located near the Belgian stock exchange, this bar is the bees’ knees, the cat’s pyjamas, the mole’s spats, if you will. From its utterly charming terrace watch it fill with the best of the city’s bright young things of all stripes, most of whom are there, one feels, to out-peacock each other. Stand there long enough and, depend upon it, you’ll meet someone desperately interesting and very probably not a little eccentric to strike up a conversation with. Service is irreproachable and if the people watching begins to sap your energy a bit, there are some excellent sandwiches and smoothies to be had to revive flagging spirits. Nor must we forget the excellent array of Belgian beers on offer. You wouldn’t think it necessarily, but they have a rip-snorting good wine list, too. A veritable embarrassment of riches or should that be ” L’Embarras des richesses.” Grab a seat as you enter the fray and order a glass of something full bodied and red. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly and the whole place exudes an air of a bar that knows exactly what it’s doing, which, incidentally, it does. Just the ticket should you fancy something out of the ordinary. Best in the summer months, thanks to that terrace. But regardless of time of year, it has a good deal going for it and is a big hit with hip Bruxellois with good reason. This really is one of the city’s drinking gems – what are you waiting for?
