Appropriately enough the Yard Bar stands on a site that has housed a brewery for centuries. The sleek contemporary space has an appealingly cosmopolitan atmosphere, with its eye clearly more on the future than on the past. It’s a splendidly airy space, with big windows to let the light in and a pleasant courtyard area. There’s a decent range of beers, though nothing too far from the norm, and a solid wine list, while the food is a level or two above standard pub grub. Cocktails aren’t quite up to mark yet, but the pitchers always go down well with groups unwinding after work. This is where this place excels, as a chilled venue to let one’s hair down after a busy day; it’s not pushing back boundaries on the style front, but it’s comfortable, welcoming and its appeal is clear.
