Named for the famed Irish dramatist and co-founder of Dublin’s Abbey Theatre, the Lady Gregory is a somewhat unassuming neighbourhood restaurant. It’s a welcoming space, homely if not over stylish, with lots of dark wood, a traditional bar area, a decent food menu with an emphasis on farm-to-table and sustainable, local ingredients – and an agreeable atmosphere that makes it deservedly popular with locals. But what picks it up a notch above similar venues, is its extensive spirits selection. This is a seriously epic list. The bar stocks some of the best whiskeys from around the world, an extensive range featuring more than 300 different varieties. This enticing list comes in the form of thick, leather-bound book and includes a vast range of Irish whiskies as well as plenty of Scotch and bourbon. There’s also a huge range of American and European beer on offer, both bottled and on draft, including the all but obligatory black stuff. Food-wise, we’re talking classic American burgers and sandwiches ultimate grilled cheese, meatloaf, and the like – hearty portions and familiar flavours, comfort food of the best kind.
