Longman & Eagle

Longman & Eagle, the popular Logan Square eatery which positions itself as a modern take on a traditional Chicago inn, is already well known – and well liked – for its great food, serious burgers, gloriously inventive brunch offerings and its inviting atmosphere. Now there’s another reason to visit, with their new Off Site Bar, situated in the back of the restaurant. It’s not a huge space, with only a handful of seats, more of an adjunct to the dining room really, but it offers a full cocktail menu of contemporary and classic drinks. Cocktails include the New Black, described as the love child of a Black Manhattan and a Sazerac, the Yuzu Toddy which uses the Japanese citrus fruit instead of lemon, and the Persistance of Common Wisdom, a complex, layered drink, which blends gin, Lillet Blanc, Campari, salt, and grapefruit oil, the salt countering the potential bitterness of the drink. They also make a classic Old Fashioned and a spot-on Manhattan. They’re also pretty big on whisky with some 148 currently available in total and 38 different ones on offer daily, from a range of both obscure and popular labels. Plans are afoot for the launch of a Saturday Sausage Shop, with a rotating weekly selection of sausages made in-house.
