River Roast is a huge River North venue which, as its name suggests, specializes in roasted meaty goodness, and is helmed by two of the most respected chefs in Chicago. The acclaimed team of Tony Mantuano and John Hogan is a big draw here, but there’s a lot to like about this place, particularly the long stretch of seating along the Chicago River. It really comes into its own in the evening when the sun sets and the city lights on the other side of the river start to sparkle. The views are pretty special, so grab a drink and enjoy. The venue itself is handsome, all warm wood and black leather banquettes. The drinks menu including house punch and quality cocktails – including the Giant peach of Doom, a mix of Peach Rittenhouse 100, Peach Demerara, Ango, Peychaud, and a Absinthe rinse, and the Amaro Swizzle, a blend of Lemon-mint Four Roses, Leatherbee Fernet, Cynar, mint, lime, nutmeg – as well as a good range of local craft beers. The food menu features various things on boards as well as a pretty epic selection of roast meat, whole wood smoked chicken, fire-roasted fish, plates laden with tender roast beef. The house soft serve or the Midwest cheese plate are both good ways of rounding out your meal.
