The Michelin star-garlanded BOKA in Lincoln Park is worth visiting for many reasons. High among them is Benjamin Schiller’s exciting cocktail programme. Shiller picked up the Jean Banchet Award for Mixologist of the Year recently and it’s easy to see why. In addition to his work at BOKA, he’s also behind the drinks menu at Girl and the Goat and GT Fish & Oyster, His creations at BOKA include the Clean Break, a summery mix of gin, Pimm’s No. 1, cucumber and grapefruit oil; the Peacemaker, also gin-based with jasmine-agave syrup, egg white, and bitters, and the Secret Menu, a potent tequila-based drink with tequila, galangal syrup, Falernum, and lime. The venue itself is chic and stylish, with lots of silver and greys and an atmosphere that while grown up and sophisticated though surprisingly unstuffy given its ‘fine dining’ credentials. The handsome cocktail lounge has recently been revamped and there’s a small terrace area for dining and drinking in warmer weather. Giuseppe Tentori’s food is a real joy to experience: inventive, playful, visually appealing, well-soured and well-flavoured. Those stars are well deserved.
