Located on the top floor of the Gold Coast branch of gorgeous department store Barneys New York, Fred’s is the go-to place for a post-shopping tipple or two. It’s an elegant space with an almost penthouse-style layout and striking features like a cool stone fireplace and a huge terrace complete with glorious lake views, which is ideal for alfresco sipping. Once you’ve given your wallet a work out and splurged in the sales, head up to Fred’s for a restorative drink. The cocktail menu features a great selection of original drinks, many made with house-made syrups and artisan spirits, and there’s also a good range of wines and fizz on offer too it’s the kind of place that calls for fizz. Their sparkling cocktails feature delicate floral and fruit garnishes, but while prettily presented still deliver a kick. The food menu meanwhile, designed by Mark Strausman, executive chef of Fred’s at Barneys New York, is full of light, fresh dishes, pizzas, salads, pastas, gourmet sandwiches and the like to get you going again after a day of serious shopping.
