Chicago-Near North Side

The vintage, French-inspired cocktail lounge still has an enviable buzz about it despite opening all the way back in 2011 (what? That’s a long time in bar years). It’s a gorgeous space, which always helps; a lot of money has clearly been spent on the design, with its chalkboard-bedecked interior complete with marble-topped mahogany bars, bronze sconces and an abundance of attractive Moroccan-style tiles. The atmosphere counts for a lot too; it’s got an enviably convivial vibe, and makes a great place to come with friends, or to bring a date for that matter. The top floor lounge is particularly popular, with the drinks chalked behind the bar and what drinks they are: well-crafted classic cocktails and an excellent selection of craft beers, many local. Food doesn’t quite meet the same high standards though, it misses as often as it hits, and suffers from a sense of over-familiarity, but if you stick to snacks and focus your energies on the liquid pleasures on offer a good night is guaranteed. Revel in the beautiful surroundings while ordering another round of excellent cocktails.
