Simone’s is a well-liked bar and grill located in Pilsen, a neighbourhood rapidly becoming something of a drinking destination. This is place has a whole lot going for it, including a well-composed cocktail menu, featuring a modern twists on classic drinks a refreshing Cucumber Collins, a kicky Ginger Mai Tai, the Trinidaddy, which blends El Maguey Vida, peach schnapps, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and ginger beer, and The Foster, a crisp blend of Absolut Pear, St. Germain, Pimm’s, and sparkling wine. The kitchen serves a range of crowd pleasing dishes including pizzas, salads and sandwiches. The Pilsner Burger comes topped with jalapenos, guacamole and Chihuahua cheese and brunch dishes including a mega breakfast burrito, top notch French toast and a quality house Bloody Mary. They’re big on reusing and recycling here and the light, bright, quirky interior is full of reclaimed and salvaged items including old chemistry lab tables, booths made out of old seatbelts, and a DJ booth made from a pinball machine. The walls have been sprayed with graffiti by local street artists and the mood is fun and lively, with an arty edge that’s in keeping with the feel of the neighbourhood. Music is a fairly big deal here too and the venue plays host to regular sessions of Afrobeat and acid jazz.
